Booze Judging

Booze Judging

December 6, 2020

18 entries were put forward for the Liqueur, cider and wine competitions which would have taken place at Adstocktoberfest. Thank you so much to Nick Sowicz, our wine merchant turned maths professor, who came all the way from London and Sue North from the wonderful Farm Deli in Winslow for stepping up to judge the entries.  They were meticulous in their deliberations, giving credit to the great efforts made by all the competitors.

The judges had a few well mannered disagreements before coming to these conclusions…

The Cider Cup:

1st place – Nick Kelly’s “‘Ead Banger”

2nd place – Amanda Nicholson’s elderflower infused cider

3rd place – Farokh Khorooshi’s red wine (made from the same variety of grapes under the pergola in the orchard)

The Liqueur Plate:

1st place – The Normington family’s “Boozy Berries 2020”

2nd place – Tamsin Nicholson’s apple, honey and cinnamon cider brandy

3rd place – Poppy Nicholson’s sticky toffee pudding brew made without full knowledge of her dad.

Next year the plan is to sell liqueur making kits for £5 (all for Afghanaid) using the distilled cider from the Adstockistan pressing in October, this will be judged at Adstocktoberfest on 2 October 2021 – fingers crossed!

Thank you so much to our 2 judges for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and taste and provide their professional opinions on our efforts, thank you to Farokh for his continued  support to the orchard, the photos and the hosting and to everyone for entering – there were no bad apples among the offerings!
